Remember when the world waited with bated breath for Incredibles 2? Remember how that wait was 14 years?
Now, it’s been two years since the release of Incredibles 2, yet somehow no movie has been able to topple this film rife with female empowerment, intrigue, superpower and epic highlights of the human condition.
Let’s take a look at the five reasons why Incredibles 2 is still the most incredible film produced by Disney’s hands down.
Disney
The first film, The Incredibles, puts the major action and spotlight on Mr. Incredible and his superhuman strength, yet Elastigirl has some amazing tricks up her sleeve that get center-stage this film. We watch as she stretches over a high-speed train, beats up guys in uniform— and all on a motorbike. Female empowerment is bolstered through this film where we watch Elastigirl let herself be the female heroine for both herself and every girl out there in the audience.
C’mon, Edna Mode is what is always à la mode. Her famous one-liners from the first movie like “You can’t! It’s impossible! I’m far too busy. So ask me now before I again become sane!” are matched with, “I am NOT a baby person, Robert! I am not cut out for baby's facilities! I am an artist” or even “I am bright and he is stimulating— we deserve each other!” Fans’ favorite scenes from the first movie are her adaptations of the superhero suits. This sequel’s, too, do not fail to disappoint.
Disney
Watching Bob have to take care of the family instead of Helen in this film is actually rather extraordinary. The audience gets to see a movie that sheds light on the reality of working Dads and how they have to fight the stigma of making family come first rather than their work. We watch as Bob tries to keep Jack Jack from hurting himself, help Violet deal with her teenage years and help Dash put school as a priority. What other Disney film shows such a reality?
Since it is now 14 years later, the amusing shenanigans of Jack-Jack are even more enhanced. He has super strength, can duplicate, turn invisible, float, shrink and expand— you name it. He may be a handful but the graphics are truly fun to absorb and take heart in. There’s nothing more super than a super baby!

There are so many layers to this film— female empowerment, working dads, the importance of love and family— and now the directors have added the enemy, ScreenSlaver, where Evelyn uses screens to hypnotize people into doing actions they don’t actually want to do. There is so much to unpack here, but let’s just say... is ScreenSlaver far off on how we act with technology? Is the movie far off in showing how difficult it is to be a stay-at-home parent— no matter if you’re the father or mother?
